As part of its community outreach, the Office of Development at Marian Woods Convent in Hartsdale, NY has sponsored a Thanksgiving Food Drive, which benefitted the food pantries of St. Charles Borromeo and Resurrection Parishes in Harlem and The Mercy Center in the Bronx, places of current and past ministries of Marian Woods Sisters.
The drive was a great success thanks to the generosity of our Sisters, staff and local community. The Hartsdale Fire Department in conjunction with the Greenburgh Firefighters Local 1586 not only provided a large donation of non-perishables, they delivered it to Mercy Center along with other food donations received at Marian Woods. In addition, Marian Woods took up a monetary collection for both food pantries to purchase supermarket gift cards to help patrons purchase items for Thanksgiving.
Marian Woods Executive Director, Sr. Aileen Donovan, OP remarked on the experience, “It’s been a blessing to help those suffering in NY during this time, and we thank everyone who joined with us in this worthy cause. As a result, the Marian Woods Circle of Care that holds us all had grown wider still.”
