ONE YEAR POST SCRIPT
CORNELIA CONNELLY MIDDLE SCHOOL
June 1, 2016 the Marian Woods Sisters and Cornelia Connelly, Holy Child Middle School girls are a year older! The fifth grade of 4th Street NYC are now sixth graders soon to step up to seventh grade in September.
On this beautifully sunny June day, International Children’s Day, the girls descended from the special air-conditioned bus, provided for them by their Holy Child sister school Oak Knoll, in Summit New Jersey. They gathered at our Peace Pole for prayer to begin our day.
In spiritual union with the children of Syria, a world away, we joined those children who had initiated the prayer program for peace everywhere in our troubled world.
As we Sisters and girls sang our staff read the word PEACE written on the pole in languages they knew and spoke… Hindi, Hebrew, French, Italian, Spanish, Aramaic and English.
Then a scenic walk on our grounds was followed by word games with Sisters and girls winning small prizes.
After an Italian dinner, shared with individual pen pals, the girls presented a dress rehearsal of “The Wizard of Oz” a gift of spontaneous laughter and joy with the help of their rehearsal teacher-prompter.
Time to say “farewell” until we write again and meet once more in springtime 2017 when they will be on the verge of eighth grade. May we all, Sisters and students, continue to grow “…in wisdom, age and grace.”
